WINNER GERMAN BLUES CHALLENGE 2021
Muddy What? Winner German Blues Challenge 2021
MUDDY WHAT? stands for NEW BLUES!!
Fasten your seatbelts - Muddy What? turn every stage into a shared experience. Defined by rare connection, spontaneity and an immediate sense of closeness with their audience, the Munich-based trio led by siblings Ina and Fabian Spang has become one of the few German blues acts to build a truly international reputation far beyond their home country.
Their concerts dissolve the boundaries between stage and crowd: whether walking through the audience mid-song or turning spontaneous moments into something unforgettable. Despite their virtuosic musicianship and powerful stage presence, the Munich-based siblings remain strikingly approachable. Charismatic yet grounded, playful yet deeply focused, Muddy What? create shows that feel personal even in large festival settings. A night with Muddy What? is an experience full of groove, warmth and genuine human exchange.
Blending blues, rock, funk and roots music, the band combines Ina’s virtuosic guitar and mandolin playing with Fabian’s powerful vocals and a groove driven by pure passion. Rooted in the spirit of the Mississippi Delta while fearlessly modern in approach, Muddy What? create a sound that feels both timeless and alive.
With acclaimed festival appearances, relentless touring and a growing reputation across borders, Muddy What? have built a loyal audience stretching from Central Europe to the Nordics and beyond.
Their breakthrough came with a semi-final placement at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2022, followed by extensive touring across Europe and the acclaimed live album Live at Victoria Teatern, recorded in Malmö. In spring 2026, Muddy What? released their sixth studio album Neon Soul, which received enthusiastic critical praise for its emotional honesty, immediacy and raw intensity. French music magazine ROCK’N FORCE described it as “sincere and emotional blues, full of freedom and intensity.”
Since the album’s release in spring 2026, the Neon Soul Tour has secured appearances in nine countries across Europe and Scandinavia - with additional dates still to come - lighting up renowned festivals and clubs alike with their unmistakable live energy.
